MEETING GUIDE 1:
Notes for adapting
For younger groups…
You may want to summarise some of the long passages to keep their attention. You may even want to split this meeting guide into two weeks worth of sessions if it seems too full.
For older groups…
Get them to spend longer on ‘Can I help you?’, being vulnerable with each other may be hard, but this will deepen friendships and they may have real capacity to help one another.
For unchurched young people…
The role play may not work for this group, but ‘Can I help you?’ and ‘Do you know where you live?’ can be sections to focus on.
MEETING GUIDE 2:
African Impala Clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shcge1kmsME
Fellowship of the unashamed poem: http://www.priestsforlife.org/resources/unashamed.html
For younger groups…
You may want to leave some of the more violent details out, and focus more on the idea that the worldwide church is one big family. Perhaps use a world map and ask about different countries.
For older groups…
You could go into some more detail about persecution. More information and testimonies can be found at www.youth.opendoorsuk.org
For unchurched…
Shift the focus to why Jesus is so important that people would even suffer for him. This leads to an opportunity for the gospel message.
For mature Christians…
In the first section, you could open up the passage with this: the word used for “life” here is
the Greek word “zōē” which means fullness; a
life active, vigorous and devoted to God.
MEETING GUIDE 3:
Notes for adapting:
For younger groups…
You may want to play ‘Safe House’ both before and after the Bible study, and run the teaching on chapter 7 in a separate session.
For older groups…
You may want to drop the opening activity to concentrate on the Bible study.
For unchurched…
You may want to use ‘Old Testament Names’ to gauge the group’s knowledge of the Old Testament. Consider which stories you may like to explore in a subsequent session.
For mature Christians…
You may want to use ‘Old Testament Names’ to see how well they know their Bibles. See if they can find the relevant passages.
